2015 Audi q7 TDI - low washer fluid sensor

Apparently Rain X windshield washer fluid forms a coating on the sensor and it prevents it from detecting if there is fluid in the reservoir.  I believe it creates too much resistance and makes it too hard for the sensor to tell that fluid is there... Maybe it sends a electrical current through the sensor?

I removed the sensor by prying it out carefully with a flat blade screwdriver and cleaned it with water and a green scrotchbrite pad.  There are pics on the internet of the sensor gunked up with a gel like material.  My sensor did not have a noticeable buildup.

You just need to clean the electrodes.

Pics to show the location of the fluid reservoir.  This procedure can be done without removing the reservoir from the car.  You need to  get the felt fender guard out of the way.  It is fastened in place with a variety of T25 torx and 2 plastic 10mm nuts.  You need to remove about 6 t25 screws and 2 10mm nuts to be able fold the fender liner out of the way.  It is adviseable to remove the passenger front wheel to get more room.

Have a bucket to catch the WW fluid that will come out when the sensor is removed.

The whole process was completed in under 1 hr.

This is the sensor that needs to be removed and cleaned. (Connector removed)
